Training Begins February 16 and 17, 2008

Hundreds of AIDS Marathon volunteers from throughout the San Francisco Bay Area will be training to complete The San Francisco Marathon or Half Marathon on Sunday, August 3, 2008.

Our training programs are geared to both beginners and experienced runners. The full marathon program starts with three miles of running and walking, and gradually increases in distance. The half marathon program starts with just one mile. Your running Coach will be on hand each week to answer your questions and give you valuable advice and encouragement.  In the past ten years, we've trained more than 20,000 people to complete a marathon or half marathon.  You can do it too!

The Regular Training Program consists of just 30 minutes, twice a week on your own, and then longer group runs on the weekend. Each weekend, you'll train with your "pace group" - other runners who share your same level of conditioning, whether fast or slow.  You'll always train at a comfortable pace and, believe it or not, you'll even have fun doing it!

The Advanced Training Program is designed for experienced, faster runners as well as veteran marathoners who have a specific marathon time goal.  The advanced program consists of hill training, tempo runs, interval training and gradually increasing long runs.  Participation in the Advanced Training Program will require meeting certain prerequisites to be determined by the Coaches of the AIDS Marathon.
